Ghana legend Mohammed Polo has pleaded with President Akufo-Addo to step in and fulfil promises made by the previous government to the players that won the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations.
Polo, who commended the President for settling Ghana’s first-ever world boxing champion David Kotei, popularly known as D.K Poison unpaid money worth $45,000 is calling on the government to do same for players who died for the country.
Speaking to Koforidua based Bryt FM, he said, “It is about time the government start fulfilling all promises made previously because we fought very hard for the nation. Just recently the President ordered for the payment of the state loan to DK Poison and I believe it’s a good call”
“The President should start thinking about footballers who won trophies for the country. There were a lot of promises (houses) but the government at the time failed to fulfil them. Most of the players that won the AFCON title are still alive so they should consider doing something for us” he said.
The former Hearts of Oak icon played an instrumental role in Ghana’s triumph in the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations.
