Parliamentary candidate for Asawase Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Muntaka Mohammed has denied allowing his minor daughter to thumbprint his ballot paper on his behalf.
Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak triggered a hullabaloo as he used his 6-year-old daughter’s thumbprint to cast his vote in the ongoing general elections.
In explaining, he affirmed that he only raised the thumb of his daughter as he took her through the electoral process but didn’t necessarily allow to thumbprint on the ballot paper but rather did the thumbprint himself.
Muntaka Mubarak after going through the electoral process at his electoral area, Peace of God polling station at Aboabo in the Ashanti Region, the Member of Parliament together with a child believed to be his daughter walked to the designated box and made the thumbprint on the ballot paper.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, he asserted that his daughter is minor and there is no way he will allow her to thumbprint which he knows isn’t right.
“If you see her, she’s only six years old. She doesn’t even understand what’s going on. I raised her thumb and did the thumb printing; it was virtually me doing it. If I had given it to her, she would not have even known what to do. She’s my princess and I came with her during the last elections. I’m just taking her through the process.”
“I am very confident that whatever happens, democracy will be victorious today. So far, all of us have seen that the process is going on smoothly. Everything is calm because every polling station started well. I have taken updates from my reps from all the 206 polling stations in the constituency and everything is cool. I have no doubt on my mind that the people of Asawase are going to retain me. I am super confident that the people are going to retain me at the end of the day,” he emphasized.
