Background
The accused persons were arrested Sunday, September 12, 2021, for the “creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats, and the brandishing of a weapon and the assault of some police personnel”.
Some plain-clothed officers of the CID UNIT initially went to the church premises to invite Rev. Owusu Bempah to the CID headquarters after he failed to honor several invitations by the Police.
Some associate pastors and church members and his private security details at the Church resisted the attempts of the officers and eventually disarmed them and allegedly held them hostage.
Armed Police Reinforcement team was quickly dispatched to the Church premises to free the police officers, arrested Rev. Bempah and the three other accomplices.
A statement issued by the police on Sunday, September 12, 2021, after the arrest and signed by its acting Director of Public Affairs, ACOP Kwesi Ofori stated that the arrests were made “after critically analyzing the said videos and based on intelligence gathered”.
Meanwhile, two other suspects are said to be on the run and are being pursued.
The injured police personnel have also received medical treatment according to the statement.
