The Asamankese Circuit court has fined a 34-year-old porter, Kwaku Tweneboa Gh¢120,000 for possession of narcotic plant contrary to section 41(2) of the narcotic control commission Act 2020 (Act 1019), and in default, he will serve three years in prison custody.
General sergeant Samuel Owusu, the prosecutor said the complainants, in this case, are policemen stationed at the Akyem Oda Division and the accused person is a porter at Oda.
He said on 06/07/2021 at about 11:00am, the complainants were on motorbike patrol duty within Oda, and in the day, the team received a tip-off that the accused together with a group of young men had gathered in a place noted for drugs peddling and smoking which is popularly known as Akotomoriase so the police proceed to the location to see what is going on there.
The accused and his colleagues upon seeing the police decided to run away but they were chased by the police and the accused was arrested near a dilapidated wooden structure and he threw his black polythene bag away but the police retrieved it and saw 51 wraps of narcotic plant suspected to be cannabis and cash of seven Ghana cedis.
The accused was escorted to the Oda Divisional Police quarters for further investigation and after forensic science laboratory test in Accra, the report indicated that the suspected cannabis was original. The accused was later charged and arraigned before court for prosecution.
