The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Asene-Manso-Akroso in the Eastern Region, Hon. Alex Inkoom and his accountant, Mr. Prince Amoah is in hot over missing ghc24,6000 from the Disability fund of the district.
The fact of the case according to a police source is that, on Friday 10, 2022. the DCE gave a cheque for Gh¢24,600.00 to the accountant, Mr. Amoah to cash at a bank at Oda to purchase items for distribution to persons with disability in the district.
Mr. lnkoom directed the accountant to send the cashed money to his residence at Asene for checking before continuing his journey to the assembly at Manso for which he complied.
After Mr. Inkoom and the accountant had checked the money at the DCE’s residence at Asene, he (DCE) told Mr. Amoah to take the lead and wait for him at the assembly at Akyem Manso for final approval of the itemized list.
According to the police source, Mr. Amoah hired a taxi from Asene to Manso, a distance of about six kilometers without using any of the official vehicles at the assembly.
However, on return, the accountant claimed that armed robbers attacked him in the outskirts of Akyem Batabi community in the broad daylight, snatched the bag containing the cashed amount, dumped him in the bush, and bolted with the money.
When journalists contacted the Oda Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Daniel Amoako, and the Oda Divisional Police Commander, ACP, F .S Adikah on the issue, they confirmed that they were investigating a case of that nature.
The DCE has also declined comment.
Meanwhile, the Asene-Manso-Akroso constituency of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has issued a statement calling in Ghana Police Service to investigate the allegation.
The statement signed by Maliaka Abdul Wahab, Constituency Communications officer stated that “We the members from the NDC fraternity within the aforementioned constituency will like to seize this opportunity to admonish the Ghana police service, Oda branch to do a thorough investigation to ascertain all the necessary facts about the said amount and punish anybody who will be found guilty in such broad daylight thievery to serve as a deterrent to those in power today who thinks they can just steal money from the country anyhow.
But, we’ll like to serve notice to both the DCE and the district Accountant that even if the Ghana police Service refused to pursue this case today, the next NDC government will revisit the case and bring finality to it and punish the culprits accordingly”
