Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader, has said that President Akufo- Addo’s address on the economic hardship Ghanaians are currently going through didn’t inspire hope.
The Tamale South member claimed that if the President had hoped to generate hope, he had failed miserably.
The 30-minute address, according to Mr Iddrisu, was more of a campaign message than an attempt to inspire hope among the populace during these trying times.
These claims were made by the outspoken lawmaker during his Monday appearance on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show.
“He appeared to me as if he was on a campaign platform of 2016 when he wanted the NDC [National Democratic Congress] and John Mahama government out with those mouth-watering promises and pledges.
“I believe that the President failed to radiate hope and failed to provide concrete solutions to the urgent economic crisis facing our country,” he told host, Kojo Yankson.
For the first time, President Akufo-Addo addressed the nation on the health of the economy on Sunday.
While conceding that the country is in crisis, the President detailed several steps his government has made to mitigate the impact on citizens.
Despite commending the President for being forthright about the situation of the economy, Mr Iddrisu believes President Akufo-Addo should have admitted that his administration was responsible for the current disaster.
“The President failed to take and accept responsibility for leading Ghana into this economic crisis. For me, that is my deepest concern and worry. He simply should have said that ‘I take responsibility for the economic crises I have created’ and emphasised that ‘I borrowed excessively’,” he intimated.
