The Achiase Senior High School (ACHISEC) in the Achiase district of Eastern region are yet to have a desktop computer, despite having to write Information and Communications Technology examination, with their peers elsewhere in the WASSCE.
According to the students, there is only one laptop in their school’s ICT lab which makes the practical aspect of ICT studies very difficult because a class of more than seventy students have to use one laptop and their teacher’s mobile phones for practicals.
Hence, they are appealing to government, cooperate institutions and individuals to come to their aid and help provide them with desktop computers.
This came to light when the school were crowned winners of the 66th independence day quiz competition in the Eastern region which was held in the regional capital, Koforidua precisely Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (OMESS).
The winners including Ghana National Senior High School (GHANASS) and St. Martins SHS and Abetifi Presby SHS were in the final stage of the competition with 110 score points, a difference of 69 points between the school second school St. Martins SHS.
Speaking to the media, students who represented the school voiced out their major challenge in the school which is seriously distracting them from performing excellently in academics to migrate their school from Category-B to category-A schools in the country which is lack of computers in their ICT lab for practical’s.
Two teachers who prepared the contestants for the regional 66th independence day quiz competition; Mr. Richmond Okyere commonly known as “Octopus” (history teacher) and Mr. Foster Baffour Effah (Government teacher) shared their excitement for the victory and difficulties they go through during ICT studies in the school and also expressed their gratitude to their member of parliament and DCE for their support which really encouraged the students to perform excellently.
The headmaster of Achiase Senior High School; Mr. Eric Amoah on his part hinted that the school will be celebrating its 40th anniversary on the 6th May, 2023 and therefore called on old students, dignitaries and indigenes of Akyem Achiase, both home and abroad to come and grace the occasion to help them generate funds for fencing their school and other important works in the school.
