The Asamankese Circuit Court Presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 25 year old motorbike rider, Ayensu Frederick and a 32 year old musician, Simon Teye to 15 years each imprisonment in hard Labour for Robery and Stealing Motorbike.
Two of their accomplice have runaway and the Police is searching for them for prosecution.
Delivering Judgement, Justice Abass Abubakari Adams said the two accused persons were giving minimum sentence for Robery and Stealing because they pleaded guilty and have already served about eight months in remand.
Prosecuting, Inspector Samuel Owusu said Complainants in this case are Benjamin Amannor and Stephen
Akutei, Both are motor riders residing at Kwaboanta and the first accused persons claimed to be a motor
rider residing at Akokoaso near Kade whilst the second accused is a musician residing at Ashiaman.
The prosecutor said the Police Intelligence revealed that the accused persons are syndicate in the stealing of motor bikes and their method of operation is to use the motorbike for Commercial purpose and they use the opportunity to attack and Rob people who are engaged in their services.
The Statement said On 06/12/2022, at about
6:30pm two of the accused persons on the run hired the complainants motorcycles from Kwaboanta to Akrofikrom and unfortunately, the other two accused persons and their accomplices chased the riders on the way and took away one ltel mobile phone, ear pin, a pair of slappers and Royal motor bike.
Accused persons tired abandoned the two complainants in the bush to struggle to death but the Complainants managed to escaped
and reported the matter to Police at Kraboa Coatar.
Also on 09/12/2022 all the four accused person embarked on a similar operation at Obotwene junction, Asamankese where convicted accused persons were arrested but their accomplice managed to escape.
Complainants came to the station and identified the two accused persons as their assailant and when a search was conducted in a bag containing dresses belonging to both
accused persons, one Itel mobile phone, ear pin, a pair of slappers, belonging to one
complainant, a Sim card belonging to another complainant among other Sim cards and
memory cards which owners are yet to be identified were retrieved.
On interrogation,the accused persons admitted the offences and stated that the first accused person and one other at large took the motor bikes to
Akyem Kade and Akyen Adwafo same day and sold same to one Obed and Mohammed for GHC4,200.00 each.
First Accused person led Police to Akyem Adwafo to see the buyers but they were not around but When contacted on phone they all admitted
having possession of the said stolen motor bikes and promised to return same to Police without delay but has since failed to do so.
Meanwhile, efforts are being made to arrest the dishonestly receivers.
After investigation, accused persons were charged with the offence to appear before Court for trial.
