The Asamankese Circuit Court Presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 40 year old Carpenter, Kwasi Appiah to 15 years imprisonment in hard Labour for Fraudulent Land Transaction, Contrary to section 277(2)b of the Land Act 2020 (Act 1036).
Kwasi Appiah is already serving seven years imprisonment in hard Labour for similar case.
Prosecuting, Inspector Samuel Owusu said the complainant in this case is a business woman and lives at Kasoa -Accra and the accused person is a carpenter by profession at Nsawam.
He said in the month of November, 2022, the complainant discussed with a witness in this case, who is a friend that she needed acres of farm land to farm and the witness was introduced to the accused.
In the same November, 2022, the accused person led the complainant and the
witness to Okaikrom, village near Adeiso and showed her six acres of land.
He told the complainant that, an acre of the land is GH¢8,500.00, totaling
Gh¢51,000.00 including documentation which would be made by the accused person.
The complainant on 17/11/2022 met the accused, his grandmother and
one head of family at their family house at Nsawam and made payment of Gh¢51,000.00 to the accused person and his family.
On 08/05/2023, the
complainant went to the land to put pillars but she was told that the land does not belong to the accused person and is owned by one Akropong Court Registrar.
The complainant subsequently, reported the case to the Police amd On 14/08/2023, the
accused person was arrested and in his investigation caution statement, he admitted
the offence.
After investigation, he was subsequently charged with the offence
and put before this Honourable Court.
