Mohammed Maazu Gariba, a form 3 student of Saviour SHS Osiem, has been handed a 14-year prison sentence by the Circuit Court in Koforidua for his involvement in a notorious cable theft.
Mohammed Maazu, an ex- convict was accused of stealing electrical wires valued at Ghc 59,000.00, pilfered from a residence in Akim Anyinasin.
Gariba’s criminal activities came to light on November 19,2023 when he was arrested at Akim Anyinasin in Abuakwa North Municipality.
The audacity of his theft extended to removing all the electrical wires from a newly constructed building,subsequently burning them to extract the copper.
After burning the stolen wires, Gariba attempted to conceal them in a nearby bush.
However, luck was not on his side, leading to his arrest when he returned to retrieve the stolen goods.
This is not Gariba’s first encounter with the law.
In 2020, he was convicted for a similar cable theft and served a 23-month sentence at the Tafo Magistrate Court.
His recurrent involvement in such criminal activities prompted the Circuit Court in Koforidua to impose an enhanced sentence of 14 years, taking into account his previous record.
