Ghana legend Dan Owusu has expressed his displeasure about Black Stars coach Chris Hughton following defeat against Cape Verde in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars lost their opening game against the Blue Sharks on Sunday and face a difficult test against Egypt on Thursday.
Speaking in an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the three time Ghana Premier League goal king winner took a swipe at the former Premier League manager, saying he is a confused coach.
“Chris Hughton served as a technical advisor to Otto Addo and has also managed top teams abroad including Brighton. He has been in the game for long and I think he is now lacking ideas. Hughton is confused and does not know what to do. I wasn’t happy when he named 55-man provisional list for the tournament. Why invite 55 players knowing you have limited time to prepare” he said.
Ghana failed to go beyond the group stage at the last Nations Cup in Cameroon, and are bent on making it to the next phase of the tournament.
The Black Stars will engage Mozambique in their final group game on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Ghana now find themselves in a challenging position in Group following the defeat. They are currently bottom on the table without a point.
