The Ministry of Health in partnership with the World Child Cancer (WCC) through its stakeholder’s engagement meeting has launched the AGMEN project in Ghana.
The project is geared towards improving childhood cancer care in Ghana.
The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu in a speech read on his behalf by Dr. Hafez Adam Taher, Director for External Health Cooperation of the ministry, highlighted the global challenge of 400,000 children diagnosed with cancer with an anticipated annual increase of 1,200 new cases in Ghana.
Stressing the importance of early detection, he emphasised that many childhood cancers are curable when diagnosed earlier.
Hon. Agyeman-Manu further indicated that as part of the progress with implementation of National Policy on NCD’s, steps have been taken to review the National Cancer Care Strategy 2013-2016 to conform to the objectives for the new NCD’S policy.
He added that with support from some of the development partners, the country has seen investment in the area of pathology, medical oncology, palliative care and improvement in the logistical capacities of the cancer registries.
