President John Dramani Mahama has presented a full truck of medical equipment to the Ho District Hospital injecting critical resources into the frontline of healthcare delivery under the Free Primary Healthcare programme.
The delivery is part of a nationwide distribution of essential logistics to strengthen service delivery at the primary level and expand access to care, particularly in underserved communities.
Addressing the gathering at the Ho Municipal Hospital, the President commended staff for their dedication and highlighted government’s commitment to improving conditions of service.
He explained that the Free Primary Healthcare initiative is designed to reach millions of Ghanaians not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), with services at CHPS compounds, health centres and polyclinics to be provided at no cost.
Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, said over 24,000 medical items have been procured for nationwide distribution, adding that the policy complements the NHIS and prioritises preventive care through community outreach and early screening.
He emphasizes that the initiative introduces a proactive model of care, where health professionals will conduct community outreach and home visits to promote preventive health and early diagnosis.
The intervention is expected to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve access to essential services across the country.
