The Eastern Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Felix Okyere Addo, has stated that the agency is committed to protecting and improving the environmental habits in the country.
Mr. Okyere Addo indicated that the agency will strive for good environmental practices with solutions to global environmental problems by raising awareness on environmental sustainability.
He said that the EPA has worked tirelessly to promote an eco-friendly atmosphere for Ghanaians over the past years.
In an interview with the media after a massive health walk to mark EPA’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Mr. Okyere Addo asserted the agency will continue to pursue its mandates to help reduce the negative environmental impacts caused by the activities of the civilians.
Mr. Okyere Addo averred that the health walk was to strengthen the staff to serve Ghanaians better on environmental-rated issues. He said that the celebration was to create awareness on environmental sustainability and ensure good practices in waste management in the region.
Speaking on the EPA’s achievements, Mr. Okyere Addo affirmed that adequate staff have made significant progress in monitoring, compliance, and other activities by the agency.
He expressed that logistics from the government have created an avenue for the agency to work more effectively, adding that they continue to spread awareness in communities on environmental issues.
Mr. Okyere Addo urged Ghanaians to heed environmental concerns, directives, and permit conditions in their communities, saying environment permits for the commencement of projects have brought development to the country.
“Environment issues are not really solved; they are addressed. Mitigation measures are relevant to dismount issues,’’ said Mr. Okyere Addo.
He stated that the agency will embrace itself to battle deforestation, illegal mining, climate change, the ozone layer, and other emerging issues.
Mr. Okyere Addo articulated that the agency will engage the government with constant dialogues and negotiations to enable them to gain resources adequately.
