The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come under fire from the minority in parliament, which claims the party has deceived Ghanaians with false promises to win the general elections in 2024.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader, criticized the NDC’s campaign rhetoric on Tuesday, January 21, during the debate on the second round of President John Dramani Mahama’s cabinet nominees.
But he promised that his caucus would make sure the government kept its promises.
Afenyo-Markin questioned the government’s ability to keep its pledges and warned that winning an election did not give it unbridled power.
He warned that to maintain accountability and openness, the Minority would keep a careful eye on and examine every move made by the government.
The Minority Leader claimed that the NDC’s campaign was founded on exaggerated claims and forewarned that Ghanaians would soon realize the genuine goals of the ruling party.
Additionally, he questioned if the government could live up to the lofty standards it had established during the election campaign.
“We will hold your feet to the fire. You think you campaigned and got it handed to you on a silver platter? You will see. You call us a micro Minority, but you will see,” he stated.
