Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) director of communications, has urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be patient in their criticism of the new administration.
He claims that since they will be in opposition for a very long time, they must become quite proficient at staying in opposition.
Sammy Gyamfi was weighing in on the controversy surrounding Ghana’s desire for a Hajj Village.
“The NPP should understand that they have now come to the opposition. Four years will come right now, but it will not be easy. They should take their time because they will be in opposition for a very long time,” he said.
The Hajj Village is a project of the Airport Company Limited to make money from pilgrims and other facility users, not the Ghanaian government, according to the NDC’s Director of Communications.
“The Muslim pilgrims will use the Hajj village for just six weeks in a year, but the village being constructed has shops, offices, and a sports complex, which will generate revenue for the Airport company, so I don’t see why the complaints. John Dramani Mahama has not used state funds to build any church or a Hajj Village it is the Airport Company which is constructing their village,” he said.
Then-President Akufo-Addo guaranteed Ghanaians that state monies would not be used for the building, which is why the NDC opposed the National Cathedral but supported the notion of a Hajj Village, he said. That was not the case, though. Therefore, the National Cathedral presented a problem to the NDC because the president was lying about the building’s legitimacy and state of construction.
