Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has served noticed that the Regional Anti galamsay taskforce formed recently will soon strike against illegal miners warning that nobody should call her to plead for mercy.
The Minister said this Wednesday when she stormed a Galamsey site where two siblings recently drowned at Akyem Abompe in Fanteakwa South District.
The deceased were among four children who reportedly went to swim in an abandoned mining pit fill with water near homes.
This brings to three children drowned in illegal mining pits the region within a week.
The first incident occurred at Boadua a suburb of Akwatia in Denkyembuor District where a 14 year old boy drowned in a mining pit around their house.
The Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey was livid after witnessing the devastation and dangers created by illegal miners at Abompe.
The Minister later visited the bereaved family to console them and assured for justice .
Father of the deceased children Kwabena Adjei, urged authorities to fight illegal mining menace to avert such incidents.
