The Minister for Finance, Dr. Ato Forson, has announced that the government has released an amount of GHS987,965 from the Consolidated Fund to the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) as part of the statutory disbursement for the first quarter of 2025.
Delivering a statement in Parliament on the status of statutory fund payments, Dr. Forson indicated that 25% of the released amount is earmarked for the design and construction of 24-hour model markets in each district. Additional allocations will support the development of health and educational infrastructure, as well as the provision of potable water and other essential services
“Mr. Speaker, as of yesterday, the DACF has received and we have transferred an amount of GHS987,965. The Administrator is required to ensure that 80% of this amount is transferred directly to the Assemblies without fail,” he cautioned.
Each Metropolitan, Munucipal and District Assembly (MMDA) in the country will receive a minimum of Ghc 25 million this year.
The Minister also urged Members of Parliament to closely monitor the use of these funds by the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure proper utilization and accountability.
Additionally, Dr. Forson disclosed that a total amount of GHS2,033,469,607 has been disbursed to the National Health Insurance Fund to support healthcare delivery across the country.
Contributing to the discussion, the Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, appealed to the government to release statutory funds on time, citing the numerous abandoned and incomplete projects in various constituencies.
Also speaking on the matter, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Ahmed Ibrahim, commended the President’s vision to complete abandoned projects initiated by previous administrations.
He emphasized that these efforts will empower Assemblies to drive local economic development and further strengthen the decentralization process.
