The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in New Juaben South has completed the vetting process for members hoping to take up leadership positions ahead of the party’s internal elections. All 35 aspirants who went through the process were declared qualified to contest.
The chairman of the election committee Hon. Peter Yaw Kosoe confirmed that 36 people picked up nomination forms, but only 35 submitted for vetting.
He said all 35 are were found to be qualified hence cleared to contest the election.
“Per the statistics that we have, all 35 people are qualified to stand in for all the positions from the various polling station and electoral area coordinators up to the constituency level,” He said.
The vetting committee was made up of the Council of Elders, the constituency chairman, the patrons’ chairman, the identifiable group chairman, and the research and election officer. Together, they reviewed each aspirant’s eligibility before clearing them to contest.
A breakdown of the constituency-level races shows real competition for several positions: three people are contesting for chairman, five for first vice chairman, and four for second vice chairman.
The women’s organizer position attracted three contestants, while secretary and assistant secretary each drew two. Youth organizer and NASARA coordinator each have four aspirants, and two people are contesting for communications officer.
Of the 35 total aspirants, four are women. Notably, a woman is contesting for youth organizer for the first time .
A position that has historically attracted only male candidates.
The committee described this as a sign that interest in the party’s internal democratic processes is growing, particularly among women.
After the vetting exercise, the committee addressed the aspirants directly, encouraging unity regardless of who wins.
They framed the contest as a “home match,” meaning the competition is internal between members of the same political family rather than against an outside opponent.
“We advised them that this is a home match we are the same family. Whoever wins should be able to bring the other members on board, so that New Juaben South NPP will be able to progress as expected,” Mr. Kosoe said .
The committee also pointed to the turnout and enthusiasm at every level of the process polling station, electoral area, and constituency as a positive sign for the party heading into the 2028 general election.
“The level of enthusiasm tells us that if we come together in unity, we can easily wrestle power from the NDC come the 2028 general elections,” Kosoe added.
The 35 cleared aspirants will now move on to the constituency’s internal elections, scheduled for July 11 and 12, 2026.
