A planned peaceful flower-laying ceremony by two groups calling itself the Concern Youth of Akropong and Justice for Kwasi Ansah Awuku has been cancelled following a directive from the Ghana Police Service and Akuapem North Municipal Security Council.
The event, which was scheduled for today Friday, April 17, 2026, in Akropong Akuapem marking exactly a week when Kwasi Ansah Awuku alias Dragon a personal bodyguard of Queenmother of Okuapeman was killed by police in his house at night.
The wreath laying has been called off after police declined approval, citing non-compliance with provisions of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491).
In a statement, the groups said the decision to cancel the event was in adherence to the police directive, stressing their commitment to maintaining law and order.
According to the Akropong Divisional Police Command, the notification submitted by the organizers failed to meet key requirements under the law — including the stipulated five-day notice period and details of the proposed route and destination.
The directive was signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Comfort Miah.
Meanwhile, the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly has also imposed a ban on all unauthorized public gatherings in the municipality.
The Municipal Security Council, citing rising tensions in the area, says the measure is necessary to safeguard lives and property following recent disturbances.
Authorities are urging residents and stakeholders to comply fully with the directive as security agencies have been tasked to enforce the ban without exception.
