In a strategic move to bolster regional security, the US Chief of Navy for Europe and Africa, Admiral George Wikoff, led a high-level delegation to “The Square” for a diplomatic visit.
The high-level delegation was accompanied by Rolf Olson, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy, the delegation was received by Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Defence, Honourable Ernest Brogya Genfi.
The meeting highlights the intensifying defense partnership between the United States and Ghana, specifically targeting the evolving security landscape in West African waters.
The both parties addressed the urgent need to protect Ghana’s maritime boundaries following a recent spike in regional maritime crime on securing territorial waters.
Minister Brogya Genfi emphasized the necessity of upgrading surveillance capabilities and monitoring systems to detect and neutralize emerging threats in real-time.
Touching on operational readiness, the Minister called for an increase in joint military exercises and specialized training programs designed to prepare the Ghana Navy for the complexities of modern naval warfare and piracy.
Admiral Wikoff reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting these efforts, noting that future collaboration will prioritize strategic investment and capacity building to ensure personnel are well-equipped for future security challenges.
