The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has expressed deep concern over the conduct of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in its handling of matters involving the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple.
According to the statement, the House acknowledged a High Court ruling which determined that EOCO acted without lawful mandate and violated constitutional principles of fairness in its handling of the matter. The House emphasized that the Court’s decision was “clear and unequivocal.”
The Chiefs further noted allegations by Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple that, despite the court’s ruling, EOCO has continued its investigations and publicly questioned the judgment—actions the House says undermine judicial authority.
The statement stressed that such conduct is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy and warned that any attempt to disregard court decisions weakens public confidence in the justice system.
“If EOCO was dissatisfied with the ruling, the appropriate course of action would have been to seek redress through the appellate process,” the statement noted, adding that bypassing this process interferes with the administration of justice.
The House reaffirmed that no institution or public office is above the law and that court decisions must be respected at all times.
Consequently, the Volta Regional House of Chiefs strongly condemned EOCO’s posture, describing it as an affront to administrative justice and the constitutional order of the Republic.
The Chiefs called on EOCO to exercise restraint and demonstrate full respect for the authority of the courts and the rule of law.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the House’s commitment to upholding justice, due process, and the integrity of Ghana’s constitutional institutions.
The statement was signed by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.
