João Pedro scored twice against his former club to fire Chelsea into the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, securing a 2–0 victory over Fluminense at the MetLife Stadium.
The Brazilian forward opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a stunning curling effort from outside the box after Fluminense failed to clear a Pedro Neto cross.
Fluminense came close to equalising when Hércules’ effort was cleared off the line by Marc Cucurella. Moments later, they were awarded a penalty for a perceived handball by Trevor Chalobah, but the decision was overturned by VAR after replays confirmed the contact was unintentional.
Chelsea doubled their advantage early in the second half with a swift counterattack. Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernández linked up brilliantly before João Pedro hammered home his second goal with a thunderous strike that crashed in off the crossbar.
Despite late opportunities for Christopher Nkunku, Malo Gusto, and Nicolas Jackson, the Blues comfortably saw out the win to book a place in their second FIFA Club World Cup final.
Fluminense’s exit ends South America’s representation in the tournament.
Chelsea will now face the winner of Real Madrid vs PSG in the final.
