On September 16, 2025, the Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Krobea Asante, was interviewed by Nana Yaw Obeng on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show concerning politics of insults in Ghana over the years.
Addressing the recent wave of insults and defamation in the Ghanaian political space, Mr. Asante noted that politics has always involved moments of tension, recalling what he described as “the bitter days.” He explained that during the period when former presidents were seeking power, many negative things were said about them, yet they still persevered.
He further emphasized that although some labeled former leaders as intolerant, once they assumed office, they demonstrated tolerance and a good understanding of politics. According to him, propaganda has always been part of political practice, and therefore it should not come as a surprise when such issues arise.
Touching on recent remarks by Abronye directed at the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Asante remarked that such exchanges are not new in Ghana’s politics. He however stressed that Article 3 of the 1992 Constitution clearly states that under no circumstance should Ghana become a one-party state, underscoring the importance of safeguarding democratic freedoms.
