October 17, 2025 – Agyenim Boateng, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Governance, and International Relations at King’s University in Accra, has cautioned political parties against internal divisions, warning that disunity can significantly weaken their influence in national elections.
Speaking in an interview on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem, Mr. Boateng reflected on the growing tensions within certain political parties, stating that the way leadership is chosen — and how that choice is communicated — is causing confusion and fragmentation among party members.
“Some members believe that the process by which leaders are chosen in their party has not been transparent,” he explained. “This confusion is part of why new parties are emerging. Some individuals may have expected someone like Dr. Bawumia to lead, and while they knew he would likely rise, the lack of unity is hurting them.”
He added that a party’s strength lies in its ability to bring people together. “When people start breaking away or publicly attacking each other, the party loses its weight. If this disunity carries into the national election, it reflects as a decline in strength and influence.”
Mr. Boateng further cautioned leaders against using divisive language in public. “A political party is meant to unify people. When those at the top start insulting each other and making strong statements in the media, they are essentially ending the campaign for their opponents.”
He urged political actors to remain disciplined and focused, reminding them that the true enemy is not within, but outside — in the national contest for votes.
Mr. Boateng’s remarks come at a time when internal disagreements and factionalism are becoming more visible within major political parties across the country.
