Dr. Isaac Apaw-Gyasi, former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, has expressed concern over the lack of major development projects in Koforidua since 2018.
“If there has been any improvement in Koforidua, it was during the period of 2017 and 2018. There has never been any major legacy project after that to enhance economic growth in Koforidua,” he said.
Speaking in an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on Brytfm, the former MCE made this assertion.
He highlighted projects from his tenure, including Jackson Park and asphalted inner roads, as examples of initiatives that boosted the city’s economy.
“Jackson Park has become a beautiful and economically useful space. In Ghana, I don’t know of any park that looks as good and generates as much revenue for the assembly,” he said.
Dr. Apaw-Gyasi also criticized the current state of the city, noting congestion and roadside trading despite efforts to provide shops for traders.
“The whole idea was to make sure Koforidua had enough shops so traders could leave the roadside and have a proper place to market their goods. Without continued investment, however, the city risks losing the progress that was made.” He said.
