The Member of Parliament for Salaga-South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has reaffirmed her commitment to collaborating with government to find a lasting solution to the decades-old electricity challenges affecting the East Gonja Municipality.
She made this known while addressing students, staff and management of Salaga T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School during the launch of the school’s 55th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, 14th February 2026.
Highlighting the impact of unstable power supply on academic performance, the legislator stressed the need for equity in educational development across the country. “When we study in Salaga without electricity, we write the same examinations as students in Achimota and Mfantsipim who enjoy constant power supply. It is not fair, and I strongly believe that development and opportunities must be equal across the country. If electricity is necessary for effective learning, then every school must have reliable power to enable students to prepare adequately and succeed,” she stated.
Hon. Hajia Zuwera disclosed that her office has been working closely with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to permanently address the recurring power outages in the municipality. She expressed appreciation to the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for his commitment to ensuring that Salaga secures its own electricity sub-station to curb the persistent power challenges.
According to the MP, contractual processes for the construction of the sub-station are currently underway. She assured residents and the school community that the intervention would provide a permanent solution to the municipality’s electricity problems.
Touching on infrastructure challenges facing the school, Hon. Hajia Zuwera indicated that steps are being taken to rehabilitate the school’s ICT and science laboratories to bring them up to standard and enhance teaching and learning.
She further revealed that through engagements with the Ministry of Education, the contractor responsible for the school’s dining hall project has returned to site. She expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and assured the school community that additional projects including the construction of a housemistresses’ bungalow and a new dormitory block will be undertaken to ease accommodation constraints.
The lawmaker emphasized her dedication to the development of the Salaga-South Constituency.
“I have not rested and will never rest in fulfilling my mandate to serve the good people of Salaga-South. I am constantly seeking opportunities that will positively impact the development of the constituency and improve the lives of our people,” she affirmed.
The anniversary launch was attended by several dignitaries, including Yiram Kpembewura Banbange Ndefoso IV, Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area; Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, Savannah Regional Minister; Hon. Kassim Yazid Rabiu, Municipal Chief Executive for East Gonja Municipality; Dr. Issahaque Munawaru, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (Quality and Access); Mr. Issahaku Awalu Jahanfo, Headmaster of the school; Mr. Haruna Abdul Aziz, NDC Constituency Chairman.
Also present were members of the PTA, alumni, teaching and non-teaching staff, religious leaders, and students.
The event marked a significant milestone in the history of the school and served as a renewed call for equitable development and improved infrastructure to support quality education in Salaga and beyond.
