Ofori Panin Senior High School has marked its 65th anniversary with a career fair aimed at equipping students—especially final-year candidates—with guidance on their next steps after secondary education.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mrs. Benice Kokor, Chairperson for the programme, a former student of the school and a lecturer at Koforidua Technical University, emphasized the importance of career orientation for students preparing to transition into higher education or the job market.
She explained that the career fair was designed to help students identify suitable academic programmes and career paths based on their interests and abilities. According to her, such initiatives are crucial in preventing students from making wrong choices that could negatively affect their future, as well as impact their families and communities.
Dr. Kokor further noted that the programme also considered students who may not immediately proceed to tertiary education, ensuring they are equipped with practical knowledge and alternative pathways for personal development.
She added that resource persons were invited to educate students on life after school and to guide them in selecting courses that align with their long-term goals. She encouraged educational institutions to organize similar programmes before students complete school, stressing that early guidance is key to success.
Dr. Kokor also advised students to remain focused and grounded in their values, urging them to put God at the center of their decisions.
The PTA Chairman, Dr. Seth Twum, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the need for students to pursue relevant and beneficial programmes at the university level. He stressed the importance of acquiring skills that can lead to financial independence.
Dr. Twum revealed that efforts are being made to steer students away from illegal mining activities (galamsey) by introducing them to opportunities in data science and other innovative fields where they can earn a living responsibly.
He concluded by encouraging students to take the advice shared during the programme seriously, noting that it would help shape them into responsible and successful individuals in the future.
