Former managing director of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea, has blasted the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for firing Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, calling the move unjust.
Following Ghana’s losses in international friendlies against Germany and Austria in March, the GFA declared that it had severed ties with Otto Addo. The Association acknowledged that the process of selecting a new coach has started and thanked him for his service in a statement.
In response, Nana Akomea stated on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show that Otto Addo should have been granted more time because of his contribution to Ghana’s World Cup qualification.
“He was the one who qualified the Black Stars for the World Cup, have we forgotten? These were just friendly matches; there was nothing at stake. You could have been patient,” he said.
Nana Akomea insisted that a Ghanaian should be in charge of the national team and threatened to hold a one-man protest if the GFA hired a foreign coach.
“Anyway, it has been done, but they should make sure they don’t bring a foreigner or else I’ll stage a one-man demonstration,” he added.
