Ghana Football Association is expected to announce a new head coach for the Black Stars this week as the team gears up for the impending 2026 World Cup tournament.
The West African football heavyweights is currently without a substantive coach following the sacking of Otto Addo after a string of unimpressive results in friendly matches.
However, the Ghana FA has stormed the market searching for a competitive tactician to lead the Black Stars for the global showpiece, which kick starts two months’ time in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking to Channel One TV last week, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams hinted the new Black Stars would be announced this week.
“If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach,” he said.
“We have what it takes to go very far, maybe even win the World Cup. Let’s remain hopeful,” he added.
The incoming coach is expected to assume duties ahead of a pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico in May.
Ghana, who have been drawn in Group L, will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger showing at the tournament after group-stage exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions.
