The first batch of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has presented a number of illegal firearms seized during their operations to the Ministry of the Interior.
Sector minister Muntaka Mubarak commended the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the NAIMOS team for their dedication and commitment to the fight against illegal mining. He subsequently handed over the seized firearms to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons for proper documentation, marking, and destruction in accordance with the law.
The Minister assured the public that all equipment and items seized during anti-galamsey operations, particularly excavators, will be dealt with transparently and in line with established legal procedures.
He added that details of such seizures and subsequent actions will be made public through the appropriate channels to ensure accountability.
He also called on the good people of Ghana, especially communities affected by illegal mining activities, to continue supporting the government and NAIMOS in the fight against galamsey. Illegal mining poses a serious threat to our environment, water bodies, farmlands, and the health and livelihoods of our people.
To the newly deployed batch of NAIMOS personnel, Hon Muntaka Mubarak urged them to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, integrity, and dedication. By remaining focused on their mandate and earning the trust of the public, they will contribute significantly to the success of this national effort to protect our natural resources for future generations.
“Together, we can win the fight against illegal mining and safeguard Ghana’s environment for future generations” he added.
