The Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has called on Ghanaian politicians to prioritize honesty and integrity in their engagement with the electorate, urging them to stop deceiving citizens with unrealistic promises.
In an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on Bryt Adekyee Musem Morning Show, Mr. Owusu lamented what he described as a growing trend of misinformation and empty campaign promises in Ghana’s political landscape.
According to him, politicians in the past were more focused on explaining their policies and development plans to voters, whereas many contemporary politicians rely on falsehoods and exaggerated promises to gain electoral support.
Mr. Owusu stressed that elections can be won without misleading the public, adding that political leaders should instead focus on addressing the country’s pressing challenges and presenting practical solutions to them.
He also raised concerns about government expenditure, particularly regarding the operations of presidential staff, arguing that waste and corruption remain major obstacles to efficient governance.
The UP Communications Director further emphasized that honesty, transparency, and competence are essential qualities for effective leadership and sustainable national development.
He urged political actors across the country to embrace truthfulness and accountability as key principles in strengthening Ghana’s democracy and advancing the nation’s progress.
