The flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President, John Mahama has revealed that he will not initiate any new infrastructure in his first year when elected as President again come December 7.
This he believes will create more time for the government to finish all uncompleted projects in the country.
“We will start no new project in the first year and what we will do is to harness all resources that are possible to continue and finish projects that have been left abandoned”, he added.
John Dramani Mahama made his intentions known whilst speaking on Woezor TV prior to his three-day tour at the Oti Region after some chiefs and traditional rulers complained about the numerous uncompleted projects in their communities.
“In the first three months when I come into the office, we are going to ask all districts to take inventory of projects that have been abandoned and have come to a standstill and base on that inventory; we will do a budget to include providing resources to finish those projects, and then we can look at other projects,” he said.
According to him, the government’s failure to complete projects has slowed down the country’s development.
The former President of the country has expressed his disappointment in the previous government for not taking up this initiative.
“The tragedy is that when you are working on things like roads and you develop it to a certain stage and you don’t finish it; what happens is that it deteriorates and if you want to do finish it, it becomes even more expensive.”
He, therefore, promised the Chiefs that he was going to complete all the projects if he is voted into power in 2021.
“In the previous administrations, an effort was made to keep development going, and so I haven’t seen a case where there is a sudden directive to stop work. Projects can be ongoing while you do an audit and make the adjustment where necessary” Mr Mahama bemoaned.
