The Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Nana Adjei Boateng, has revealed that agriculture was in its declining state when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) came to power about three years ago.
According to him, major policies initiated by the Akufo-Addo led government have seen massive improvement in the agriculture sector, giving hope to farmers.
Speaking at the 35th National Farmer’s Day at Jumapo, the New Juaben North Legislature, mentioned Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Food and Export, among many other interventions as factors that have contributed to the bumper harvest being experienced across the country.
Nana Adjei Boateng added “Sometimes people doubt when the truth is put out. But some of us know, Ghana use to import plantain from other countries like Cote D’Ivoire, but that is a thing of the past because we have enough to eat and even export”.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North Municipality, Comfort Asante emphasized that the government would continue to invest heavily in agriculture to ensure the country has enough to eat and export.
She indicated, her outfit is also supporting farmers in all aspects of their activities to ensure they engage in proper farming practices to boost agriculture.
The MCE retreated; her outfit has distributed thousands of oil palm seedlings to farmers within the municipality with a lot more yet to be shared.
She was, however, optimistic the Assembly would do its best to invest in the celebration to award hardworking farmers within the municipality.
36-year-old Akwadum resident, Comfort Dzamesi was adjudged the 2019 Municipal Best Farmer.
She received a tricycle, spraying machine, fertilizers, and cutlasses, among many others as her prize.
Mrs. Comfort Dzamesi, therefore, urged the youth to engage in agriculture and do away with the perception that, there is no work in the country.
