Ghana National Association of Teachers Secretary, Thomas Musah, has warned schools, specifically private schools not to charge extra fees from parents concerning Covid 19 because the government will provide all the necessary PPEs.
The president in his recent address on Sunday, January 17, paved the way for all students across the country to go back to school and begin a new academic year.
Most schools are supposed to begin their studies at 8:00am and close at 12:00pm due to the uncertainties the world is going through now and for the safety of the students.
It has been drawn to the attention of Ghanaians that some school authorities are charging students for Covid 19 materials.
Speaking in an interview on Dadi FM 101.1 FM, with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee, Thomas Musah advised all school authorities to hold on with any charges concerning Covid-19 and wait for the Ghana Education Service for more information.
“No school is eligible to charge any fees for Covid because the Ghana Education Service will provide all the necessary materials the school needs to protect both the teachers and the students”, he said.
He also added that it is only the GES that can warrant such an act so if any school is encountering problems they should reach out to the educational authorities.
“If any school is facing any challenge, the best people to reach out to are the GES. I repeat don’t charge any student or parent any money in regards to Covid-19”
