Registered Community Nurses Group Ghana (RCNG-GH) has called on the government to address inequalities in Ghana’s healthcare system.
The Registered Community Nurses Group Ghana (RCNG-GH) is a group under the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) that promotes preventive nursing in Ghana.
In a statement issued Wednesday, April 7, 2021, by the National chairman of RCNG-GH, Edmund Atweri Duodu to commemorate World Health Day today on the theme “Together for a fairer, healthier world”, the Registered Community Nurses in Ghana, stated that
“We have noted that though there have been some improvements in health outcomes globally and Ghana, these gains have not been shared equally in the communities we serve. Inequities have always existed and the COVID-19 pandemic has also impacted negatively the worsening situation among people socially, economically, and geographically. In our communities, we still see people suffering to have access to basic health services”.
“On this note, we are calling on the government to monitor health inequalities in Ghana and address their root causes to ensure that everyone has access to the living and working conditions that are conducive to good health and to quality health services where and when they need them, and to invest in primary health care to achieve health for all by all”.
Registered Community Nurses Group Ghana (RCNG-GH) seized the opportunity to call on the government to improve conditions of Services of Registered Community Nurses and provision of basic logistics at primary healthcare facilities particularly CHPS Zones.
“Poor conditions of the RCN and inadequate resources in some communities and facilities especially CHPS Zones are major challenges in providing the best health care services to the people we serve. In all these conditions we continue to do our best. Health is a fundamental human right. Every person deserves to live a healthy life regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, disability, economic situation, or employment” the statement said.
The Group commended its members for the sacrifice being made in delivering healthcare in remote areas in particular.
“So on this World Health day 2021, we show appreciation to all our members in Ghana who work every day to ensure we bridge the inequity gap despite all the challenges we face”.
