At the invitation of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the Government of the United Kingdom, President Akufo-Addo has left Ghana with delegation to the Global Education Summit in London.
The President was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, MP; Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and officials of the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.
The President will return to Ghana on Sunday, 1st August 2021, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, by Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.
The summit, which takes place between 28-29 July, aims to raise $5bn to educate children across the developing world over the next five years.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson will co-host a global education summit with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the progress across all areas of their partnership during a packed schedule that marks 18 months since the Kenyan president’s last visit.
The Kenyan president’s three-day trip will also, according to a government announcement, include major announcements to strengthen the Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership.
The prime minister will host Uhuru at his country residence in Buckinghamshire, Chequers, for bilateral talks.
As an official “guest of government”, Uhuru will attend an event at West London’s Kew Gardens, to celebrate the Kenya-UK Year of Climate Action, and Kenya’s leadership on climate change in Africa ahead of COP26.
UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab will than him in an event at Mansion House, in London’s historic financial district.
