The Oti Regional House of Chiefs has expressed regret for not throwing their support behind Akufo-Addo’s triumph during the 2020 general elections.
Nana Besemuna made this known following the President’s visit to the Oti Region to inspect and also commission some government projects.
At a durbar to welcome president Akufo-Addo to the region, President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Besemuna III, expresses the region doubts for not contributing plentiful in Akufo-Addo success therefore they apologize and ask that the President will put such behind him and focus on his developmental agenda for the region.
Even with the numerous development projects labeled by the New Patriotic Party in the newly created region, the party still lost in the region.
“It is sad that the region could not secure even a seat for your party despite all that you have done for us. But I dare say that that is the beauty of democracy. We hope that being the astute politician that you are, you will understand the dynamics of elections,” he said.
Out of the 8 constituencies in the newly created region, the governing New Patriotic Party won no seat in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
For the Presidential election results, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) John Dramani Mahama garnered 181025 votes, representing 63.04% of the total votes cast whereas the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo secured only 35.82% of the votes, i.e, 102, 865 votes.
Meanwhile, the President on Thursday, September 9, 2021, commissioned CH Global Limited, a cassava and yam processing factory operating under the government’s 1-District-1-Factory initiative, located at Addo Nkwanta, in the Krachi East District of the Oti Region.
