A man attacked with acid by his wife in Nwiso in Birim North District in the Eastern region has accused the local police of abandoning investigation into the incident.
The victim, Isaac Lamptey popularly known as Nkontomire, a mason and farmer was on the 13th October 2021, around 10:30 pm attacked with acid by the wife whilst sleeping.
According to Mr. Lamptey, on a fateful day, the wife started seducing him under the guise of attempting to have sexual intercourse with him but resisted that he was very tired hence slept.
The wife whom he has been married to for 7 years poured a substance believed to be acid on his face.
He sustained serious burns and attempted to run away from the room for safety but alleged that the wife attacked him with a stick and fell on the ground.
The suspect thought the husband was dead. After a short while, the victim gathered strength and run away from the house for help.
“She asked me to help open her zip for her which I did. I went to bath and eat. She asked the children who were with us to close the gate. I went to bed and she came to the room and asked me to sleep in a supine position so she puts her head on me which I said I was tired so she should allow me to sleep. I slept off but she poured acid on my face and my body while sleeping. I suddenly woke up and attempted to rush out to call for help but she struck my head with a stick so I fell. She thought I was dead so she left me. I managed to get up and run away from the room screaming for help” He narrated
He was sent to the hospital for treatment.
Mr. Lamptey has not had a child with his wife hence the tension and rancor in the marriage.
The wife is alleged to have faked pregnancy three times.
“We don’t have children but she rather faked a pregnancy three times and later said she had Miscarriage. She kept defaming my character all over.
He added “The last time she collected Ghc1,500 from me that she was going to conduct surgery which was a lie.
The other time, she came to me again that she needed Ghc500 to buy medicine but I didn’t get for her which she became angry so since then we have not been on good terms “
A former complaint was lodged at the Nkawkaw Central Police station but police after taking Ghc200 for fuel have failed to investigate the incident and arrest the suspects who are hiding with family members in Dodowa and Accra.
