Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Council, has revealed giving his assent to the horrific act of whipping two lovers in the forecourt of his castle, just 24 hours after denying having anything to do with it.
The two young lovers were allegedly embroiled in a sex video controversy that went viral after a third party gained access to the female’s phone and distributed it.
The two people were flogged in full view of the public as a result of this.
At the palace’s forecourt, each individual received 20 lashes.
According to a report by the Ghana News Agency, the Overlord of Wa shockingly indicated that the flogging is part of measures his Traditional Council, which includes opinion leaders in the municipality, instituted to combat immoral and deviant behavior among the youth in the area in recent times, in response to the said video in circulation on social media and for him to give reasons for denying that the youth took arbitrary action in flogging the boy and the girl without his consent (GNA).
Flogging, according to him, was part of the restrictions set in place to instil discipline in the youth, who had recently engaged in some behaviour that was detrimental to society’s well-being.
“In addition to the flogging, the boy’s and girl’s parents will agree to allow the two to marry and live together as a couple as a deterrent to the youth and to live upright lives,” he said.
The Wa Naa stated that the laws were put in place to allow decency, morality, and peace to prevail in the Municipality in order to attract investors and provide jobs for the teeming youth.
“People who come to Wa will be able to enjoy their stay, and strangers with the family will not be concerned about their safety,” he added.
He stated that he, his elders, and other opinion leaders would not shirk their responsibilities in order to ensure that Wa remained a pleasant town for all to enjoy.
Surprisingly, when the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 31, Naa Kadri Ibrahim, the Wa Naa’s spokeswoman, was quick to criticize the chief’s whipping.
He stated the conduct would only bring the palace’s name into disrepute, and he promised that the perpetrators of the barbarous act would be apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
However, Wa Naa’s declaration that he approved of the whipping contradicts his spokesperson’s position.
