Ghanaians have been urged by the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and confronting suspected offenders.
Saviour Kudze, the GBA lawyer’s public relations officer, said that while the system is delayed, justice would always be served against lawbreakers.
He was reacting to the whipping of two young people in Wa who were accused of making a pornographic tape.
He called it brutal and in violation of the victims’ fundamental rights.
The Women and Minors Rights Committee of the Association has been charged with “closely monitoring and providing essential and appropriate legal support to the sad victims of the lawless and brutal crime.”
The GBA had previously decried the conduct, calling it “humiliating, dehumanizing, insulting, and degrading, and amounts to a violation of their fundamental human rights, as well as an attack on their persons,” in a statement.
Kudze, a lawyer Such lawlessness, must not be tolerated because it will not benefit us as a people.
”Let us put a stop to mob action. It will create more problems for Ghanaians. There are laws in Ghana, and when people offend the law, the Police will investigate and prosecute the offenders. We must exercise patience and allow the appropriate agencies to deal with such crimes,” he stated.
