The Afram Plains South District in the Eastern Region commemorated Ghana’s Independence Day Parade with the participation of personnel from a Security agency for the first time.
The parade has over the years been observed without the participation of any of the security agencies because it is understaffed. For instance, there are only thirteen Police Officers in the entire district.
The participation of the Prison Officers from ForiFori Prison camp attracted hundreds of residents who were thrilled with scintillating parade -ground-drill displayed by the Prison Officers and twenty -five other contingents drawn from Basic, Junior High and Senior High Schools backed by St. Fidelis Senior High School Cardet.
The loud applauds and cheers from the spectators and dignitaries after every single display by the contingents lit the venue.
The appearance of the head teacher of Tease Salem Junior High School -Jones Boadi, sighted among pupils marching at the parade ground intensified the excitement.
The District Chief Executive, George Ofori, in an interview with Starr News commended the Prison Officers for participating in this year’s parade.
The DCE said, the district is understaffed in all institutions including the Security agencies as workers refuse to accept postings to the area.
Nonetheless, according to the DCE, the Assembly is working hard with the few human resources available to turn around the fortunes of the Assembly.
He mentioned that, apart from the national policy interventions such as Planting for Food and Jobs and Free Senior High School, the District is also embarking on infrastructural development in the areas of education, health and safe water provision whilst efforts are underway to rehabilitate the deplorable roads in the area to boost agriculture.
