The mass registration exercise of the National Identification Authority in Obeyemi a community near Oterkpolu in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region was disrupted after a 35-year-old man stormed the center with gunshots.
The incident occurred Thursday, March 19, 2020, at about 7:40am when the officers were setting up their equipment.
The suspect, Stephen Tetteh, was immediately arrested by the Police.
Police retrieved a single barrel gun and two empty shells as exhibits.
The Registration Supervising Officer confirmed the incident to mybrytfmonline.com when contacted but declined further comment over lack of Capacity to speak to the media.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned before court today.
The ongoing mass registration exercise by the NIA has come under strong criticizing by majority of Ghanaians and Associations such as Ghana Medical Association, Commission on Rights and Administrative Justice to suspend the exercise in line with a directive by Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo who has suspended all public gatherings in the country as Coronavirus cases surge to 16 cases.
