The incumbent member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East constituency, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah has once again won the votes of Amenfi East National Democratic Congress delegates to lead the party in Amenfi East into the 2024 parliantary election.
Certified results by the Electoral Commission (EC) show Hon Nicholas Amankwah polled an overwhelming 1,405 votes representing 84% of the total valid votes cast at the end of the Amenfi East parliamentary primaries on Saturday.
His sole contender, Joshua Nanaba Atobrah, polled 241 representing 12%.
This is the second time Hon. Nicholas Amankwah who’s affectionately called “Home Boy” will be leading the Wassa Amenfi East into an election.
Home Boy has been tipped to retain his seat in Wassa Amenfi East by majority of voters in the upcoming 2024 general elections due to his chalked unprecedented achievements as a first term member of Parliament.
Hon. Nicholas Amankwah is populary acclaimed as “Home Boy” by the residents in his constituency because, according to them, their MP is accessible, submissive, respectful hardworking and a listening leader who always prioritize the development of Wassa Amenfi East.
Hon. Nicholas Amankwah was adjudged the best performing MP for the year 2022 in the Western Region by the ministry of Local Government and Rural development.
Speaking to the media, the NDC constituency chairman for Wassa Amenfi East, Nana Kofi Atokyi commended its members in Amenfi East for the smooth conduct of the parliantary primaries on Saturday.
Chairman Atokyi also praised the Ghana Police Service and the officials from the electorial commission for ensuring that the parliamentary primaries were peaceful.
The constituency chairman said, despite the initial skepticism, officers deployed on the election day appropriately conducted themselves.
Hon. Nicholas Amankwah was the district chief executive for Wassa Amenfi East from 2016 to 2017 under the elsewhere John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
He entered the race for the parliamentary candidate in the National Democratic Congress primaries in the Amenfi East Constituency ahead of the 2020 elections.
Home Boy was acclaimed in August 2019 after he went opposed in the National Democratic Congress primaries making him the NDC’s candidate for the Amenfi East constituency.
In December 2020, hon. Nicholas Amankwah won the seat for Amenfi East Constituency in the parliamentary elections after polling 36,215 votes representing 53.90% against his closest contender, Edward Amo-Acquah of the New Patriotic Party who had 29,954 votes representing 44.58%.
