Nana Yaa Jantuah, the General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has reportedly tendered her resignation.
The decision follows a petition presented during the National Executive Council meeting, calling for her removal over allegations of misconduct and non-performance.
Unfazed by the petition, Nana Yaa calmly announced her resignation from the party’s national executive position.
She expressed a sense of acceptance, stating, “Maybe they think that some other people can do it better, so if that’s what it is, then it’s fine. In politics, you do not hold onto the hinges of the party.”
Acknowledging her service over the past three years, Nana Yaa thanked the party for the opportunity to serve. She emphasized her departure and clarified,
“I am gone, and there is no qualms about it. I put it on record today that I am no longer the General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party. In due course, I am going to let everyone know where my political allegiance would be.”
Nana Yaa Jantuah is likely to join the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Nana Yaa Jantuah assumed the role of General Secretary in August 2020.
Her resignation, along with seven other national executives volunteering to step down during the NEC meeting held in Kumasi on December 5, adds a layer of challenge for the CPP as it grapples with reorganization efforts in preparation for the 2024 general elections.
This development underscores the internal dynamics within Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s CPP and raises questions about the party’s strategy and cohesion leading up to the upcoming elections.
