Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that all Ghanaians will benefit and be included in his projected presidency.
He reaffirmed his pledge to exclude no group from the presidency in the event that he wins the December 2024 elections.
Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to putting diversity and unity first reflects a larger vision for the advancement of the country.
In retrospect, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the early skepticism over the likelihood of an NPP presidential nominee who is Muslim winning the nomination.
He argued, meanwhile, that his historic candidacy marks a sea change and that Ghana is ready for inclusivity and diversity in its leadership.
He claims that his campaign embodies Ghanaians’ shared desire for a government that serves and represents all of the country’s residents, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
During his campaign tour of the Bono Region in Sunyani, Dr. Bawumia announces plans to create three Islamic Colleges of Education to an assembly of imams.
Dispersed over the Northern, Middle, and Coastal belts, these institutions represent a calculated investment in education specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Muslim population.
“My election as flagbearer of NPP is historic. It has never happened in Ghana. Many people doubted that a Muslim could be a Presidential candidate but I said it is possible,” Dr Bawumia said.
“I want to become President for all to benefit. At first, those of us from the North thought we had been sidelined in the country’s governance. That’s why when I became Vice President, I advocated the Zongo development fund,” he said.
