The immediate past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Very Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, Ph.D., has urged Ghanaians to be cautious in choosing the next President as the December 7, 2024, elections approach.
Rev. Prof. Mante underscored the importance of electing a competent leader.
He therefore admonished voters against deceitful promises, and encouraged vote for an honest and capable person.
“We should elect someone who is competent, a leader who is sincere, not someone who will deceive the people with lofty promisespromises”.
Rev. Prof. Mante highlighted the need for voters to scrutinize the background of the presidential aspirants to make informed decisions.
“We should scrutinize the background of the aspirants to inform our decisions because after voting for the person, and you go out there to demonstrate, engage in violent protests, it means you don’t understand democracy. The basic principle of democracy is that, be vigilant about the leader you vote for,” Rev. Prof. Mante stated.
He said this during a Heritage Celebration and the naming of a Multipurpose Office Complex after him at the Presbyterian College of Education in Akropong Akuapem.
At the same event, the Former General Secretary of the Ghana Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, delivered a lecture on the theme “Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Heritage and Embracing Change.”
He contended that Ghana’s cultural diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a weakness and urged politicians to refrain from exploiting cultural differences to create division among the populace.
The Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong-Akuapem honored the immediate past Moderator, Very Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante by naming a six-story Complex on the College Campus after him.
Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Nana Opare Kwakye, explained the rationale behind naming the Six-Storey Multipurpose Office Complex after Rev. Prof. Mante.
He stressed that former Moderator’s dedication, sacrifice, and significant contributions to the College and the Church, which warranted this honor.
Very Rev. Prof. Mante expressed his gratitude for the facility being named after him and pledged support for its maintenance with a seed Capital.
The Instrument of Declaration was read by Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church.
