The parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asuogyaman, Pius Hadzide, has boldly promised his supporters that they must vote for him if they want to send their kids to the United States for the 2026 World Cup.
During a campaign event, Hadzide—who is running for parliament to represent Asuogyaman—made this claim, citing his contacts and experience in the sports industry as a means of facilitating the participation of young Ghanaians in international sporting events.
It could be recalled that, Hadzide has a contentious past, which affects his pledge. In 2017, he became involved in the notorious Australian Visa scam while serving as the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. In the controversy, a number of Ghanaian nationals were accused of pretending to be journalists in order to get visas and go to Australia for the Commonwealth Games.
Hadzide has remained a significant player in the NPP in spite of the issue, and he is now concentrating on getting elected to the legislature.
In his campaign, he places a strong emphasis on global exposure and youth empowerment, using his experience to provide Asuogyaman youngsters with chances, especially in sports.
“Nananom, did you know that it takes 18 hours to travel from Ghana to Australia? Yet, I was able to assist some individuals in making this journey. The 2026 World Cup will be held in America, which is just a 7-hour flight from Ghana.
“If you, Nananom, desire for your children to travel to America to work and send money back home, or if you are a young person eager to explore opportunities abroad, I promise to support you when I become MP.
“Unlike my opponent, who has had the chance but failed to assist the youth, I will facilitate travel opportunities for all interested young people to destinations like Germany, America, UK, France, and Canada.
“So, I kindly ask for your support in the upcoming election, and I will ensure that I help you achieve your dreams of travelling abroad.”
