Christian Kwabena Andrews, founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has strongly criticized Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, accusing him of failing to serve the interests of Ghanaians.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, he alleged that the President’s tenure was marked by corruption and mismanagement.
According to Mr. Andrews, Former President Akufo-Addo did not assume office to uplift Ghanaians but rather to exploit the nation’s resources. He claimed that appointments within his government were based on loyalty rather than technical expertise, leading to ineffective governance. He emphasized that his remarks were not influenced by political loss but were rooted in what he described as “the truth.”
He further accused the Former President of looting state resources, asserting that his administration contributed little to the nation’s development. “There is nothing we will remember Nana Addo for; he wasted the country’s wealth,” he remarked.
Comparing Ghana to other nations striving to improve the lives of their citizens, Mr. Andrews argued that Former President Akufo-Addo did not take similar steps to enhance the well-being of Ghanaians.
He also criticized the government’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, claiming it did not yield tangible benefits for students but instead wasted their time. He urged the nation to focus on education that emphasizes practical skills.
Commending President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Andrews acknowledged his efforts in governance and advised him to avoid appointing individuals who might engage in corrupt practices. He expressed optimism about Mahama’s leadership, stating, “I know Mahama is going to be a listening president.”
His remarks add to the ongoing national discourse on governance, accountability, and the future of leadership in Ghana.
