On April 28th, 2020, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Shi Ting WANG, donated supplies valued about 50,000 Ghana cedis, including 1,200 bottles of sanitizer, 16,000 pieces of baby wipes, 6,800 pieces of baby diapers, 3000 medical-used face masks, 2,520 bars of soaps, 1,200 rolls of toilet paper, to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and through the Ministry to the vulnerable children deprived of parental care.
Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection received the donation. Ms. Anne-Claire Dufay, Country Representative of UniCef in Ghana, Mr. Xia Dedong, the secretary-general of the Chinese Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Ghana attend the presentation.
Ambassador Wang said that COVID-19 has a significant impact on everyone’s life, especially to the children. Under such circumstances, because of the lock-down, we understand that the children, especially the vulnerable children deprived of parental care need more help than ever before.
To ease the challenge and enormous pressure faced by the orphanages, residential homes, and foster families, with the support of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Chinese Embassy, together with the Chinese Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Ghana, would like to donate anti-epidemic supplies and daily necessities. All the items will be distributed to the most needed children to help them weather the storm by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
Ambassador Wang said that children are the future. Children are the hope. And Children are the inheritors of the friendship between our two countries. The Chinese Embassy’s priority is the work of children. Although the supplies we brought today are limited, our love is limitless. Ambassador wishes the vulnerable children deprived of parental care could also embrace a happy and healthy childhood like others, and grow to be the future Ambassadors to China-Ghana friendship.
Ambassador Wang said that the virus respects no borders. We are connected. Our destiny has been unprecedentedly linked together and we must get over this pandemic hand in hand. China sees in Africa as brothers and sisters. China is the first country to send medical supplies by chartered flight to Africa. China at all levels, including government, companies, the business community, individuals, are working together to render help to Ghana and the other African countries in various ways. Although China’s domestic epidemic situation is still a challenge, and the anti-epidemic materials are in short supply, but we would like to do whatever we can to support Africa.
Ambassador Wang said that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ghana. A friend in need is a friend indeed. At this critical time, let us united, work together to overcome the epidemic, and create a better future for our children.
Hon. Minister Cynthia Mamle Morrison commended China’s donation to the vulnerable children deprived of parental care and spoke highly of Ghana-China cooperation. Hon. Minister said that the donation reflects the sincere friendship between the two peoples. Ghana will strengthen cooperation with China and other countries in the world to jointly fight the epidemic, and give a better life to the children.
